| These are a few babies we raised in 1998. As you can see in pictures 1 & 2 the babies first plumage on their crown is a soft bluish-grey. Picture 3 shows the black scalloped green feathers are already very defined. In # 4 this little guy was already in a molt at the age of 5 months old. Just a month later (# 5) you can see that his new feathers are in and perfect, but the name Scruffy that he got tagged with the month before stuck. |

A Lilac Crowned Amazon was the very first parrot I owned. The little female named Corky was an import bird that I fell in love with in 1976. Once we got her home I reached into the cardboard box and took her out, she promptly bite me. Even as an older quarantined bird this Lilac Crowned Amazon turned into one of the sweetest, most loving of amazons. With a little patience she learned to accept my petting and scratching of her head and was one of my dearest pets. |
- Lilac Crowned Amazons are good talkers and great in a family environment. They were not well know for their talking ability until they started being raised in captivity. When raised from a baby they can develop quite a vocabulary. One of our first babies is an adult and is set up as a breeder, but she still talks and has even taught her mate to say everything she does. The baby Lilac Crowns are even tempered and seem to stay that way as they mature. They almost always get along with more then one person in the family, thus making them good family pets.
